Final Installation Photos
Class
DS220
Date
January-April 2024
Topic: Biodiversity Loss
Purpose: Students were tasked to create a semester-long group installation that portrays a global contemporary issue.
Approach: The photos depict the final product of, "Environmental Jenga," a visual exploration of the accelerating loss of biodiversity in our environment. We strategically chose to adopt the structure of Jenga to symbolize the delicate balance of the Earth's ecosystems and the alarming state of imbalance they currently face. To address this issue, we focused on two key aspects of biodiversity loss: urbanization and human exploitation. At its base, the environment is depicted in vibrant, healthy hues, symbolizing its natural state. However, as the structure ascends, the colors transition to subdued white tones, serving as a metaphor for the encroachment of human agendas and urbanization on the natural world. This gradual transformation visually represents the gradual loss of biodiversity and the consequences of human activities on our planet's ecosystems.
